Fatal accidents in cars equipped with side airbags
This publication is a summary of a study into fatal accidents which involved passenger cars fitted with side airbags. The background to this document is that other European studies have suggested that side airbags have not led to the expected increase in safety. An initial analysis of material from in-depth studies by the Swedish Road Administration (SRA) was carried out to further study the effects of side airbags. The study was limited to analysing fatal side collisions between 1999 and 2004 where the car was equipped with side collision protection in the form of a side airbag or side curtain airbag and was a more recent model than 1995.
